Man breaches probation in phone call with girl

A PHONE call with a teenage girl from prison custody has cost sex offender Nathan Spicer 15 months behind bars after he breached his probation order.

The Royal Court heard how the 'recorded' telephone conversation proved a breach of one of the most serious conditions – namely not to have unsupervised contact with children under 18 – to the probation order.

The 21-year-old had earlier this year escaped imprisonment and was instead sentenced to complete a three-year probation order, for the original offence of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 16.

Judge Russell Finch yesterday said the bottom line was the court must protect the public.

'There is no excuse and you still present an ongoing risk,' he explained.
