This was the 12th year Beeton's Fish and Chip Shop has opened specially after Christmas and donated the day's takings to the charity.

Co-owner Kim Ashplant said the hospice was a very special place for her and husband, Andy.

'Andy's mum died there, so we decided to do something between Christmas and new year,' she said.

'It was so successful that it became an annual event.'

More than £500 was taken at lunchtime yesterday and as the doors were opened for the evening rush, the queue was out of the door.
