Ambassador of the Year shortlist

A RECORD entry for the 2015 Guernsey Press Ambassador of the Year has led to a shortlist of four, in the Awards for Achievements' 30th anniversary year.

And the quartet competing for the prestigious, now iconic, award are Epic Challenges, supporting the work/fundraising for This is Epic; tennis star Heather Watson for her performances in 2015 – including Wimbledon against world number one Serena Williams; former PEH sister Jo Grimshaw for her service in West Africa during the Ebola crisis; and singer / songwriter Robyn Sherwell, who has appeared at Glastonbury, for her music and video work including the EP 'Islander'.

Such was the response for nominees for the oldest trophy of the ceremony that judges selected an extra candidate, rather than the usual three, this time around.

The accolade, dubbed The Bailiwick's Award, is given to both individuals or groups who have shone a positive spotlight on Guernsey beyond its shores. Past winners have come from the worlds of sport, the arts, business, charity and the hospitality sector.

A judging panel, made up of Jurat Connie Helyar, Susie Farnon, Island FM's James Bentley, Guernsey Press deputy editor Suzanne Heneghan and chaired by Guernsey Press managing director Mark Lewis, decided on the shortlist, a task they all this year found harder than ever due to the number and range of nominees.

Thanking the judges for all their time and help, Guernsey Press deputy editor Suzanne Heneghan added: 'Choosing between such strong achievers is never easy and seems to get more difficult every year for the panel. Yet what a great problem to have. What this award continues to show is just how many people are doing great things in Guernsey's name and how they all deserve a special mention.'

As a result, this year we are running the names of all the nominees in the Guernsey Press, where you can go to see who you believed deserved recognition and a special public thank-you.

  • The winner will be announced at the Awards for Achievement gala ceremony, the premiere awards programme in the Bailiwick recognising business and individual success, on Thursday 11 February.

  • All the nominees are listed in today's Guernsey Press
