Number of meetings cut by Alderney States
THE number of Alderney States, people's and committee meetings are set to be scaled back this year.
In the schedule for 2016 there are seven States meetings and seven people's meetings listed.
The Policy and Finance Committee is due to meet six times (including an extra budget meeting in September), instead of the 11 times it was scheduled to meet last year. The General Services Committee four times, rather than 11 times as listed in 2015.
The subcommittees are set to meet even more rarely – the Building and Development Control is forecast to meet eight times, and the Business Development, Tourism and Marketing Committee just four times. The Finance Committee is scheduled to meet four times.
Question times, which traditionally follow the people's meetings, are scheduled to take place every month except May and August despite changes to timings of the latter.
It comes ahead of what is likely to be a busy year for the States of Alderney, including a review of the Land Use Plan, the development of a housing strategy and delivery of the island's economic plan.
Andrew Eggleston, president of Alderney's Chamber of Commerce, said he was surprised that no explanation for the cuts had been forthcoming.
