Care home families given time to adjust to fee hike

RESIDENTS and relatives of the Maison L'Aumone and Maison de Quetteville homes were yesterday given three months to find the money to pay significant fee hikes.

In a set of meetings held yesterday by Methodist Homes for the Aged (Guernsey) Ltd, the company which operates the homes, it was announced that to allow families of residents more time to prepare for the fee increase, the rise will not be fully realised until 1 April.

The fees, which have shot up by over 50% in some circumstances, will now be increased in stages rather than straightaway, although there has been no change to the amounts they are destined to rise to.

Speaking after the afternoon meeting for Maison de Quetteville relatives, Keith Priaulx, whose mother has been a resident for several years, said that the delay in introducing the new fees did little to help people out.

'It's still a 50% increase, whether it's now or in April,' he said.
