Law enforcement recruits train together

COLLABORATION between Guernsey Police and Guernsey Border Agency could be a model for other jurisdictions, the law enforcement learning and development manager has said.

For the first time, recruits for both agencies are undertaking their initial training together.

Jim Bell said there were several areas that overlapped and it made sense to provide dual training. Guernsey was a test bed for the initiative and, if successful, other jurisdictions would be keen to replicate it, he said.

'Other Crown Dependencies will be looking at this, this is the first of its kind. The fact that we are joined up means we are flexible and durable. There are a lot of roles overlapping – evidence, arrest, offences, officer safety and first aid, for instance.'
