Making his way off HMS Severn at the harbour this morning, Vice-Admiral Ian Corder was greeted with a wave from the ship's company.

He then made his way onto the RNLI Spirit of Guernsey, before disembarking at the Victoria Marina.

Accompanied by a band of The Queen's Division and contingents from HMS Severn and the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, he then marched up the High Street to St James, where he was installed as the Lt-Governor.

A crowd of islanders gathered to see the procession and they said it was nice to see some good news for the island.

Geoff Falla, 76, said he was interested to see the band and the new Lt-Governor. He said putting up with the chill of the weather was worth it.

'It was rather cold waiting but it was nice to see.'
