Skipper of the Echo Beach Colin Le Conte saw the birds on Tuesday to the east of Jethou.

Mr Le Conte, who is also a member of La Societe Guernesiaise, said it is 'fantastic to see them.': 'We were watching out for them as we knew they were due to arrive around now.

'They were in open sea and a fair distance east of Jethou.

'It is possible they had just arrived and not been on land yet.

'It is great to see them back in the islands and made us feel that spring had arrived.'
