Passion for the 'real' pride of Guernsey
OUR sponsoring of the Parish Champion of the Year Award is a way for OCS to give something back to the community that ensures its ongoing business success.

Channel Islands managing director Paul Timms, pictured, who joined the company earlier this year, said there was a great pride in the local community and it never ceased to amaze him how far people were prepared to go to maintain that.
'The island is unique and people feel passionate about the real Guernsey being seen for what it is,' he said.
Established here 15 years ago and in Jersey 10 years earlier, OCS now employs around 180 and 150 people respectively.
Creating a total facilities management business was the logic behind its recent acquisition of long-
established local family firm Meadowcroft Engineering.
The move means the company can provide a complete range of services island-wide, from hygiene, security and concierge services to air conditioning, boiler maintenance and alarm installations.
Yet this only scratches the surface of what OCS does, said Mr Timms.
'Our management teams are experienced in working within your organisation to become a seamless extension of your business.'
Throughout the island people rely on OCS to provide the essential day-to-day property support services they need, leaving them free to concentrate on their core activities.
'It makes the Parish Champion of the Year Award such a perfect fit for the brand.
'We cut across all parishes for commercial and domestic customers,' he said. 'And our employees are an eclectic mix who live across just about all parts of the island.'
OCS wants to see as many nominations as possible for individuals or groups whose endeavours in certain parts of the island deserve acknowledging, including those who may not have been recognised before.
'I think a good test would be what sort of impact have their efforts had on the lives of other people and what sort of positive feeling have they engendered.
'It could, for example, be something that they have done to help people with mobility issues, support the older community members or enhance the beauty of their parish.'
Tomorrow: Angel of the Year Award.
