Review into £8m. Pfos loss finds series of errors

A 50/50 CHANCE of success was given to Public Services' ill-fated Pfos court action which saw legal costs spiral and concerns over confidentiality stopping detailed paperwork and assessments being produced.

These are among the revelations to come from an independent review surrounding the unsuccessful bid to sue the manufacturer of the firefighting foam chemical Pfos, which also reveals gaps in when the PSD board were given key external advice, that there was a lack of comprehensive documentation and reporting to other States departments was limited.

The report, from PwC and with a series of 14 recommendations, also reveals that one PSD board member challenged and 'expressed concern' over rejecting the £3.25m. settlement offer from the manufacturer 3M in July 2014.

Parts of the review have been redacted on the advice of Law Officers, on the basis that publishing the blocked out information would be detrimental to the island's financial and legal position.
