Swoffers backs Pride of Guernsey good neighbour award

Swoffers is incredibly proud to announce that it will be sponsoring the Neighbour of the Year Award at this year's Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Awards, says director Andre Austin.

Swoffers recognises that to be a neighbour doesn't simply mean just 'living next door'.

A neighbour is someone who shows kindness or helpfulness to another person.

With more and more people living without extended family around them, or other close support to call on, neighbours are crucial in those tiny life moments when you just need a little, or large, hand with something.

As everyone's world grows bigger through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, this increased connectivity doesn't necessarily mean that people are keeping in touch or looking out for each other.

We forget that a local neighbourhood was the original social network.

In the words of the Guernsey Press, this award sets out to 'recognise someone who has done anything from the great to the very simple for their neighbour. It may have made a real difference to someone's life, or had a positive impact on the neighbourhood – perhaps helping to keep it safe. No matter where we live in Guernsey, there are people at the very heart of our neighbourhoods and their contributions deserve to be celebrated'.

And we couldn't agree more.

Swoffers has been part of the Guernsey community for over 40 years. Our little green (and white) cars infiltrate every nook of every parish. It's part of who we are that we have an understanding of how people live and we have always been an active supporter of local charity and community organisations throughout our history.

On an island such as ours, good neighbours create strong communities, which become connected parishes, and before we know it, the whole of Guernsey is looking out for one another and consequently flourishing.
