Faulty undersea cable removed ready for powerful replacement
WORK to install a £40m. undersea power cable is now one step closer following the successful removal of an existing one.
EDF1, which failed in 2012, was installed between Jersey and France in 1985 and was raised from the seabed in preparation for the installation of Normandie 1 along the same route.
The 27km cable was lifted by the 2,685-tonne Atlantic Carrier, which has now returned to her home port in England to unload the final sections of the old cable for disposal and recycling.
