A 'SELFLESS' nurse who spent time in West Africa helping those with Ebola deserves to be named as the Pride of Guernsey Angel of the Year, says one islander.

Jo Grimshaw, a former sister-in-charge on the Princess Elizabeth Hospital's Frossard children's ward, has been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Angel of the Year Award – sponsored by Ravenscroft – for her dedication to the profession and for offering services in remote areas.

'Her achievements as a reserve senior serving nursing sister, still part-time, at the PEH and several overseas hospitals are considerable,' said Roy Sarre, who nominated her.

'A selfless and self-effacing humanitarian, mother-of-two mature sons and nurse, she has notably offered a responsive nursing service in specific remote, dangerous African projects and the more recent Ebola Sierra Leone crisis in charge of 200 medics.'

Mrs Grimshaw last year received the Ebola Medal for her service in West Africa. She spent six weeks in Sierra Leone.

She said it was an honour to be nominated.

'This really has come as a great surprise,' she added.
