Nearly 100 people have pledged to cycle for at least an hour a day for the next month to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

The event has raised £472,000 for the charity to date and organisers are optimistic of extending that figure beyond £500,000 by the end of May.

Mr Brown said the largest number of participants previously had been about 75.

'It's an established event which people look out for,' he said. 'A lot of people take part in events off-island but that can mean time away from family and work and extra expense.

'The event seems to attract the more non-regular cyclists who are turning their lives around by giving up an hour every day for the next 30 days.'

Riders this year will be visible by their aqua-coloured shirts.
