'Pop legends' pack out Alderney's Island Hall

IT IS fair to say that not many pop legends make Alderney a major stopping-off point on their global tours.

But last weekend the stars came out in force in Alderney – albeit with a distinctly home-grown hue.

Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday the curtains parted for one of the island's favourite local entertainment fixtures – Stars for Your Eyes.

Taking inspiration from the TV show Stars in Their Eyes, the event sees local people take on the guises of famous artists and this year the line-up included Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, Nat King Cole, the Bangles and Billy Joel, providing a feast of 16 dazzling acts and ensemble pieces.

Just like the TV show, part of the thrill for the audience was recognising the local face behind the make-up, glitter and wigs.

Well over 500 people attended the three sell-out shows staged at the Island Hall – nearly a third of Alderney's population.
