The La Mare de Carteret High School art teacher offers four-hour revision sessions on Saturdays and three hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while also dedicating whole lunchtimes to talking through students' work and trying to help them improve their grades.
She also spends her spare lesson time giving each student tutorials on what they need to do to attain the next level.
Miss Shillingford is extremely hard working and spends her own time at home researching what work each student can do, aiming for each of them to produce something unique which best matches their interests and abilities.
She also has a form/tutor class to which she gives extra time, supporting the students with both education and other life issues.
Her nominator, student Cameron Ashplant, said it would be nice for her to be noticed as someone who always goes the extra mile.
'She deserves this award as Teacher of the Year as she makes such a big impact on her school.'
Miss Shillingford brightens up the school with her displays and results, managing to get some students from an E to A grade, he added.
