Pride of Guernsey: 'Passionate about her parish'

MARGUERITE TALMAGE joined the Floral St Peter's Group eight years ago and through her enthusiasm and drive led the parish to win Gold awards in the annual Floral Guernsey Community Competition in successive years. She has been nominated for the parish champion award, sponsored by OCS.

These successes meant the parish was invited to represent Guernsey in the national RHS Britain in Bloom competition four times, winning a Gold medal three times.

Mrs Talmage's efforts inspired Marian Root to nominate her for the Parish Champion of the Year Award, sponsored by OCS.

St Peter's is this year up against five UK communities for the national top accolade of Champion of Champions.

Mrs Talmage is passionate about her parish and has seen these floral competitions as a catalyst for enhancing the parish. Achievements to this end which she and the Floral St Peter's Group members have accomplished include the beautifying of the area surrounding L'Eree public toilets, establishing a conservation meadow in the valley behind St Peter's Church and the Marie de Garis Community Garden.

She has also served as procureur of the poor and parish constable over four years and is currently secretary of the cemetery committee.

The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
