Daughter Maxime Le Tocq wanted to nominate her 81-year-old dad and 75-year-old stepmum for the Grandparent/s of the Year Award, in partnership with the Channel Islands Co-operative Society, because of their commitment to their family.

'They are taxi drivers, school play supporters, music appreciators, cricket watchers, touch-line fans, emergency meal providers, absolutely and completely dedicated to their family,' she said.

'The words "we are too busy" or "we don't have time" never cross their minds or emanate from their mouths.

'I would love for them to win this award as they are unassuming, humble people and this would demonstrate how much they are appreciated and loved by all of us.'

Maxime, her sister and brother Sarah and Jean-Luc and their respective partners, Paul, Greg and Ali, collectively have eight children ranging in ages from seven to 16.

John, a retired school teacher, said that as long as he and Joyce were there for the family, that was all that mattered.

The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
