They will also lobby Cambridge University in an effort to ensure that students from the Crown Dependencies are charged the same as British students rather than the much larger overseas student fees they currently face.

At present, Cambridge University and Imperial College do not recognise students from the three islands as 'home students'.

There are also plans to offer inter-island studying between the three jurisdictions, as well as offering education jointly for students interested in entering the nursing profession or social care.

The announcement came after the education ministers for Jersey and the Isle of Man met for their latest joint meeting on Thursday to see how the islands could work together to improve their own education offering as well as making savings. The newly-elected Guernsey president, Paul Le Pelley, pictured, did not attend because he was in the process of setting up his committee.
