It coincided with a one-mile walk at Castel Primary school – although many pupils decided to run instead – with the new forum's coordinator Alun Williams present, alongside representatives from participating schemes.
'We're here today to launch our Be Active forum,' said Mr Williams.
'The mile walk is an example of how to easily incorporate an activity into your daily life.'
He said the initiative would encompass a broad range of activities and was not limited to sports.
'We want to encourage people to be active in a whole host of activities, be it in sports or arts or any other service we can provide.'
