Just months after being sworn into the position in March, Vice-Admiral Corder has been made a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, following his service as the UK's military representative to Nato and the EU.

He is one of four people locally whose work has been recognised by the Queen.

Dr Maggie Costen has been made an MBE for her services to the vulnerable of the Bailiwick and Celia Allen has also been made an MBE for charitable work in Guernsey.

St John Ambulance & Rescue Service's chief officer Jon Beausire has been awarded The Queen's Ambulance Medal.

Vice-Admiral Corder, who described the knighthood as a 'huge honour', said he wanted to pay tribute to others who were on the Honours List.

'I am delighted for all the others recognised.'
