Various events were held across the island to commemorate Her Majesty's official birthday, as islanders young and old came together, to pay tribute to her 'faithful devotion' to the UK and Crown Dependencies.

As well as a host of parish festivities, the celebrations also came in the form of a parade of standards, veterans and uniformed organisations, followed by a service of celebration and thanksgiving.

Speaking at the Queen's birthday reception at Government House, the Lt-Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder, said in her 64 years on the throne, the Queen had made 266 official visits to 116 different countries, including five to the Bailiwick.

Sir Ian said he Googled the Queen and 130 million results were generated, compared to 56 million for David Beckham and 23 million for Wayne Rooney.

'She is arguably one of the most recognisable and most respected persons in the world.

'She has lived through, witnessed, and no doubt gently influenced some of the most important events in our recent history.

'She has in her own words held fast to ageless ideals and fundamental principles, standing up for everything we know is right and everything that is true and honest.'
