After getting up at about 3.20am, Carl Thomson, 51, pictured, had run the course three times before he joined the rest of the field for the start of the Guernsey Milk Run Father's Day Half Marathon at the L'Eree shingle bank.
The Elizabeth College caretaker said his time of 7hrs 35mins was 25 minutes quicker than he had expected for the total distance of some 53 miles.
'I did the first marathon in three hours 47 minutes so my pace was pretty consistent,' he said.
'The third leg was the worst by far and I'm grateful to Mel Bichard for doing that part with me. On the last leg I just got dragged along by the masses.'
