Nominee numbers delay Pride of Guernsey vote

THERE has been a major response to the Guernsey Press's Pride of Guernsey Awards, with nominations flooding in to meet the closing date at the end of June.

Due to the high level of demand, although nominations will still close on 30 June, we have decided to delay the public vote – to find the top three most popular entries in each award category – so that all nominees can be featured in the newspaper.

Currently we aim to start the three-week voting window on Wednesday 13 July.

The finalists for each of our 12 Pride of Guernsey awards – Teacher, Carer, Angel, Neighbour, Young Achiever, Emergency Hero, Arts Contribution, Overcoming Adversity, Parent/s, Grandparent/s, Parish Champion and Welcome of the Year – will go forward to the awards ceremony in October where the winners,

chosen by a panel of judges, will be revealed.

A special supplement reminding everyone about who has been nominated will be published in time for the vote.

Guernsey Press managing director Mark Lewis said he was delighted with the response to the inaugural awards, sponsored by our 12 Pride of Guernsey partners.

'This is a real success story and shows just how many wonderful people there are in our island, yet who until now have not been acknowledged in this way.'
