Pride of Guernsey: 'Incredibly strong and truly inspirational'

The couple were nominated for the Christies Group-sponsored Parent/s of the Year Award by friend Cathy Lloyd. Her daughter was best friends with Aggie Nicolle, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and died in February.

During this time, Cathy said Emma and Hubert never gave up hope and continued to provide as normal as day-to-day life as possible for their 'brave and courageous' six-year-old girl.

'Emma and Hubert tried to maintain whatever normality they could in between the regular trips to Southampton for Aggie's treatment,' Cathy said.

'Our daughters were very close friends and a natural reaction could have been to push us away, as we are a constant reminder of what they have lost. This would have been very upsetting to us and our daughter.

'During Aggie's last couple of weeks, Emma and Hubert allowed us and our daughter to see her as much as possible and we were always free just to drop by.

'This must have been very difficult for them as they were acutely aware that time left was very limited.

'They involved us with the funeral arrangements and made us feel included the whole time.

'They have been so incredibly strong and are truly inspirational.'
