Pride of Guernsey: 'She treats all her patients and family with care and dignity'
A COMMUNITY nurse who also volunteers for St John goes way beyond her duties to help, according to the person that has nominated her for the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year Award.
Nikita Gomes, who has been working as a community nurse since 2010, not only helps palliative care patients but also those with long-term conditions who live at home.
She is also on hand to take bloods and dress wounds when needed.
And when she is not at work, she is looking after her family and volunteering in the community.
Her volunteer work includes teaching and training first-aid to adults and children and being part of the St John Cycle Response Unit.
'Nikita is a community nurse with a large number of palliative care patients,' said Tom Burnett, who nominated her.
'She treats all her patients and family with care and dignity, often going out of her way and beyond her duty to obtain pain relief medication, mattresses or other items to make her patients more comfortable.'
Nikita has been highly commended by families of the people she helps for the extra effort that she makes.
'She also gives up her free time to volunteer with St John Ambulance for a number of roles.'
