Pride of Guernsey: 'Their warmth and friendliness are legendary'
ANTONIO SANTOS really knows how to make diners at La Piazza feel not just welcome but thoroughly at home, according to a customer who has sponsored him for the RefCo-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award.
And since Marcio Fernandez joined him as a junior partner some years ago, they have perfected the art as a true team.
Karen Gibson said she and her family, friends and colleagues had been going there for years, not just because the food was good but because of the welcome people receive the moment they walk through the door.
Their warmth and friendliness are legendary and Toni and Marcio make sure all of the staff are absolutely on-song.
'We're not just charmed but genuinely appreciative of their unstinting generosity and friendliness and the feeling that nothing is too much trouble,' said Mrs Gibson.
'No matter how busy they are – and the fact that the place often gets packed tells its own story – that warmth never wanes.
'Their dedication and love for their work extends to growing their own vegetables, salad ingredients and herbs during their precious spare time and no diner goes home without feeling their custom has been appreciated.
'Truly an example to some others in the industry – these guys really deserve this award.'
