This survey showed that 71.82% – 339 out of 472 – were not in favour of selection at 11 for admission to secondary school whilst the teacher-led survey saw 71% of 445 in favour of scrapping the 11-plus.

The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture had carried out its own survey of education professionals working in States schools, to seek their views on the issue of selection at 11.

These included teachers, lecturers and learning support assistants at all primary, secondary and special schools as well as the College of Further Education and Education Support Services. Staff working at Grange Road House were not included.

Committee president Paul Le Pelley, pictured, said both sets of results would be looked at as part of its considerations of the future structure of secondary and post-16 education.
