The La Mare de Carteret High School Year 11 student was nominated for the Butterfield-sponsored Young Achiever of the Year Award, by youth work manager at the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney, Aaron Davies.

'Lauren has achieved so much over the last 12 months,' he said.

As well as chairing the Youth Forum, she has also overseen the island's first youth hustings, first TedXYouth event, the afternoon session of which saw her take over from Bailiff Sir Richard Collas and chair the rest of its first meeting in the States Chamber.

'All of her involvement with the forum has been voluntary and she has fulfilled her role with absolute dedication and helped to drive through increased engagement for young people with decision making in Guernsey,' Mr Davies said.

The 15-year-old has also made a lot of media appearances on behalf of her peers and spoken at key events in the community, including conferences and radio.

Dan Cleary, assistant head teacher at La Mare de Carteret High School has supported her nomination.

'Lauren is an exemplary student leader. She participates in netball, she supports other students as a mentor, she is a fantastic English prefect and she commendably turned down the opportunity to apply for head girl due to her wishing to be responsible in putting her studies first.'

Lauren was also part of the school team that won the Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition.
