Pride of Guernsey: 'So humble, so caring'

FOR more than 20 years Diane Gaudion has supported her husband through the agonising pains of pancreatitis, but still always has time for others, said close friend Karen Langlois, who nominated her as Carer of the Year, an award sponsored by Specsavers.

Karen said the 64-year-old always had time for others.

'Her smile is infectious,' she said.

'She is so caring. Her faith is paramount in her life and this is really evident in all she does.

'She is so humble and I think she deserves huge recognition for the person she is.'

Diane and Eric have been together since they were 16.

'We've always been together,' said Diane.

'So when he got ill 20 years ago, it was the most natural thing for me to care for him.'

Eric has been hospitalised more than 100 times, both here and in the UK, and Diane has always been by his side.

Her sister, Angela Le Tissier, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's with dementia and Diane is always there when she is needed, either to pop round to help or inviting Angela round to her home.

'When you love someone, you find yourself finding something inside yourself which you never realised you had,' said Diane.
