Pride of Guernsey: 'kind, caring attitude'

A NURSE whose 'kind, caring attitude' made regular appointments seem like a 'weekly get-together with a friend' has been nominated for the Ravenscroft-sponsored Angel of the Year Award.

Practice nurse Christine Brassell was nominated by Simon Julou, whose mother was treated by Mrs Brassell throughout the last seven years of her life.

Mr Julou, whose mother was diabetic, said what could have been 'a weekly inconvenience' for her had been made a lot easier by Mrs Brassell.

'My late mother was a diabetic, and like a lot of diabetics she suffered serious problems with her legs.' he said.

'Christine was excellent with my mum. Her kind, caring attitude and her friendly nature meant she was not only a great support to her, but they also became friends.'

When his mother's condition worsened, Mr Julou said Mrs Brassell continued to support the family.

'Not only did Christine take care of my mum at the surgery, she also took the time to visit her in hospital when my mum's condition got worse,' he said.

'Following my mum's passing, Christine had kept in touch with both myself and my father and she has supported us both.'

Mr Julou wanted to thank Mrs Brassell on his mother's behalf, who he said had greatly appreciated the time she spent with her.

'We will always be grateful to Christine for all she did for my mum and nominating her for this award gives us an opportunity to thank her,' he said.
