Ross Senior has been put forward for the Butterfield-sponsored accolade.

'He has given his time and energy and still managed to do exceptionally well in public exams and school commitments,' his nominator said.

'He has helped save lives, responded to emergencies, provided vital support and back-up – and he's only 17 years old.'

Last year he won the Commanderies Cadet of the Year award at the 2015 National Cadet of the Year competition.

The St John Ambulance cadet took part in the two-day event and competed alongside 30 others from across the country at the competition, which was held in Gillwell Park, north-east London.

He was up against participants from Jersey, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Wight for the title.

As part of this role, he represented St John Ambulance Guernsey at a St John's Day event in London in June 2015.

The Elizabeth College student will be starting Year 13 in September.
