THE Longfrie Inn has thrived and the welcome is second to none since the current proprietors came back.

After spending three years in Spain, Antony Green and Izzy Ogbeide returned to the establishment eight years ago having run it for three years before that.

Jan Smith said the couple had rejuvenated the Longfrie and she had no hesitation in nominating them for the Refco-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award.

'When they took over, the Longfrie was not a popular place to go, but working day and night for six months they turned the place around and it is now a friendly atmosphere for all with good food and service,' she said.

'Every year something is upgraded, and there are once again guest rooms which are of a high standard, with many guests returning regularly.

'I know that this is their livelihood, and it is in their interests to have a friendly environment for guests, but Antony and Izzy always go the extra mile to make sure that everyone feels special.'

Mrs Smith said the couple had also been keen to maintain the Longfrie's history, namely the witch, which they had renewed about two years ago.

It is particularly popular with children.
