Planners give approval for new sports hall to be built at Blanchelande

STRONG support from local sporting organisations has helped encourage planners to approve Blanchelande College's scheme for a new sports hall.

The Development and Planning Authority spent seven months considering the project, which will see the former Sula Art Gallery building demolished and a new 1,306sq. m. sports hall constructed.

Blanchelande College said it was thrilled with the decision, which would provide sporting facilities for pupils and the wider community.

CCD Chartered Architects designed the scheme, which also includes a gym, dance/drama studio and changing facilities.

'Although the new building has to be large enough to contain modern sports facilities, we have carefully designed it with timber cladding to blend with the adjacent trees, at the same time reflecting some of the proportions and details of the existing college buildings,' CCD managing director Andrew Dyke said.

A fundraising campaign will be launched in this autumn 2016 to raise the money for the development.
