Driving test delays 'putting extra pressure on students'

DRIVING test delays throughout the summer have been putting extra pressure on learner drivers, with the driving test service still operating without its full contingent of examiners.

Test delays peaked six weeks ago, when they reached a high of 11 to 12 weeks in each category.

Waiting lists have since been reduced by around two weeks, with the driving test service bringing over additional examiners to help bring waiting times closer to the average in the UK, around seven to eight weeks.

Driving Instructor Bill Moore said the reliance on examiners coming from the UK had resulted in some tests being cancelled a few days before and rescheduled because the examiners could not get over.

He added that delays in test availability had put too much pressure on his students to pass first time.

Robert Lesbirel, pictured, from Bob's School of Motoring, said the shortage of available slots throughout the summer meant he had to predict his students' readiness for the test months in advance.
