The challenge encourages children to read at least six books over the summer break, while weekly story and activity sessions have been taking place every Wednesday.

This year's emphasis is on the work of Roald Dahl and the children's library team have organised activities relating to some of his most popular books.

Co-organiser Kirstie Prevel said almost 400 of the 1,445 children currently signed up had already completed the challenge.

'We have had a really good turnout this year, with lots of children coming in every week,' she said.
