Lt-Governor has a blast as he thanks islanders for welcome

AS THE clock struck 12 the Lt-Governor charged the noonday gun, in a Castle Cornet cameo that engaged visitors and locals alike.

Sir Ian said it was his and Lady Corder's first official visit to the castle, which he said was a crucial feature of the St Peter Port architecture.

'It is my first gunfire, and my first official tour of the castle, and I have seen my way through its history,' he said. 'It is an iconic part of the St Peter Port skyline, it is beautifully well kept and it encapsulates many people's ideas of the island.'
