High costs puts States off fixing Soldiers' Bay cliff
THE cost of stabilising the cliffs above Soldiers' Bay 'would be high', Environment & Infrastructure has said, in response to complaints about the long-term closure of the east coast area.
Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services said Soldiers' Bay has been closed since 2007 due to potential safety concerns following a significant number of cliff falls along the bay's access path.
The department was responding after concerns from a regular user of the cliff paths, Peter English, pictured above, who was frustrated by the long-term closure of access to Soldiers' Bay and Divette Bay, as well as other similar areas on the coastline.
Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services said engineers have assessed both sites on several occasions in order to work out the costs.
While Soldiers' Bay repairs 'would be high', an affordable solution had not yet been found at Divette.
