Sark's Mermaid Tavern celebrates Sunday opening

SARK'S Mermaid Tavern is celebrating being allowed to open on Sundays.

The recent change in the law by Chief Pleas allows the public house to open on the Sabbath, having been legally barred from doing so since 1928.

Sunday 28 August saw an orderly queue formed at noon by all of the pub's regulars and they were welcomed inside by Dorothy Taylor and her two daughters, Gina and Sally.

Complimentary drinks and food were provided to celebrate – and the pub was also excited to see that its real ale had been nominated for the Campaign for Real Ale's Good Beer Guide, which covers the whole of the UK and Channel Islands.
