Education and staff row over secondary policy

A SERIOUS breakdown in the relationship between politicians and staff at Education, Sport & Culture has triggered a review into what is going wrong.

The announcement by States Chief Executive Paul Whitfield was prompted by comments from the committee's vice-president, Carl Meerveld, pictured.

Deputy Meerveld has revealed that things got so bad a reconciliation process had happened, but then went on to complain that staff were interfering in policy.

'If they come to us with a heavy bias they are potentially effecting policy and then you have unelected civil servants influencing and effecting policy that may not reflect the will of the electorate,' Deputy Meerveld said.
