Fun Palaces is a national initiative to celebrate creativity.

On Saturday, visitors to Guille-Alles Library had a chance to make music and develop photographs.

The fun at Candie Museum was spread over Saturday and yesterday as islanders had the chance to learn about the history of the museum and play with some of the historic toys from its collection.

Guernsey History in Action members manned the toy stand.

Group member Joy Le Page said there was a great selection of toys, including Archie the acrobat, a metal toy from the 1990s, a historic set of Happy Families cards and a Noah's Ark. The animals for the ark were often inaccurate in colour and scale, due to the makers never having seen colour pictures of animals such as camels.

'The Victorians liked construction, so they learnt how to build bridges and buildings, using toy blocks made of stone,' Ms Le Page said.

'We also have a Cobo Alice doll. She is very heavy, as she was filled with sawdust.'

Katie and Winter Tyson brought their children Dylan, 4, and Harper, 17 months, to look around.

'It is a nice place to spend a morning with the children,' Mrs Tyson said.
