Security has raised airport fees

IMPROVED security measures are the reason for increased overall charges, which Guernsey Airport's general manager said amounted to around a 10% rise since 2014.

Figures released by Colin Le Ray show passenger, flight movement and aircraft fees having risen in line with inflation.

Following recent criticism by airlines and a protest against the cost of transport links, Blue Islands CEO Rob Veron said airport charges for operators made it difficult to offer the 'lower-cost services' that are being petitioned for.

'We would gladly pass on any cost savings to our customers, should the States be forthcoming with more benevolent pricing of the ports,' he said. 'This year Guernsey Airport has increased its charges at twice RPI.

'This is just one of the ever-increasing cost challenges we continue to face.'

Mr Le Ray said the only rise above inflation was on security charges per passenger, which have increased from £1.75 to £2.35 over the last two years.
