Rumours grow that Guernsey film will be shot next year
FILMING of what has become known as 'the Guernsey film' could finally get under way next spring, with Downton Abbey actress Lily James reportedly set to star.
However, there has been no news about whether the island will feature as a location in the movie.
For more than six years, the film of Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society adaptation has been in development, but despite several actresses being linked with the lead role of Juliet Ashton, filming has never started.
But now a number of websites, including film magazine Empire, have reported that French company Studio Canal is set to finance and distribute the project, with Miss James attached to the project.
As well as starring as Lady Rose MacClare in Downton Abbey, Miss James also played the title character in 2015 film Cinderella and played Natasha Rostova in the 2016 BBC adaptation of War & Peace.
Director Mike Newell, who is well known for directing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Four Wedddings and a Funeral, is said to be in line to direct.
It has also been reported that filming is set to start in spring 2017 in the UK.
An Economic Development spokeswoman said they were in contact with film makers.
