However, islanders organising small displays at home are being asked by a campaigner to be respectful and inform their neighbours.

She is also urging them to register their events on a States opt-in notification scheme.

Last year, Suzy Rose, from Better Firework Regulations for Guernsey, said it was important people knew when displays were taking place so that animal owners could be prepared.

More than 20 events, public and private, have been registered on the States website.

According to the list, events began on Wednesday and the last one, at the Castle Breakwater, is on Sunday.

The weather forecast is for it to rain this morning, but clear this afternoon with showers. Showers are also forecast for tomorrow and Sunday.

One of the public events taking place tonight is at La Houguette Primary School and its bonfire was in place yesterday.

Emma Mealing, PTA secretary, said it holds it on the Friday closest to Bonfire Night each year.
