Teachers, architects, sports clubs, douzeniers, church members and charity representatives came together to look at the approved plans for the new sports hall, which will provide sporting facilities for pupils and the wider community.

Currently, pupils either have to play sport outside, in the school hall or travel to other sites.

But now the former Sula Art Gallery to the south-east of the school will be demolished and a 1,306sq. m sports hall built.

During the launch principal Robert O'Brien said sport was not only key to a healthy lifestyle, but also helped children to become more confident, resilient and accomplished young men and women.

He said the sports hall would have a 'transformational impact' on physical education and games and allow classes to be run whatever the weather.

'It will also be vital in creating strong links with the sporting community and clubs, which are so well represented tonight.

'We want to work with you all to make this a centre of sporting excellence.'
