As part of a new healthy choices initiative and to fit in with the 'big picture' of the curriculum, many pupils are participating in a lunchtime boxing club hosted by two coaches from White Collar Warriors.

The initiative is designed to promote healthy living and learning beyond the classroom.

Christy Leavey, personal trainer, and Wayne Ogier, amateur coach, have been holding the lessons for Year 10 and 11 students for five weeks now. They run a circuit of different training exercises.

'The kids seem to enjoy it. It gives them an incentive to get through the week and their lessons – something to aim for,' Mr Leavey said.

'It is a good discipline,' Mr Ogier added.

PE teacher Seoirse Lee said the school was grateful to the White Collar Warriors team who were providing the training.

'It is basically an additional extracurricular club, but the students have really enjoyed these sessions,' he said.

'They have been very positive in the following lessons as well.

'Their performance has spiked.'
