LOCAL accents should feature in the film based on the novel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Voice coach Hugh O'Shea has posted on Facebook that he is working with the cast to find a local accent for the film Guernsey.

'My goal is to collate as many recordings of native Guernsey speakers as possible to use as my own personal research material,' he wrote online.

He is hoping to gather recordings of the Guernsey accent from the 1940s onwards, as well as speaking talking to Guernsey speakers over the phone.

'Ideally, it would be great to speak to those who have a moderate/light accent and those with a more broad accent,' he wrote.

'It would be particularly useful, but not essential, to speak to a male.'

Mr O'Shea said he could not elaborate any further on the film, but the particular focus on male speakers is likely to relate to Guernsey character Dawsey Adams, who is the male lead in the best-selling book and will be played by Dutch actor Michiel Huisman.

Downton Abbey actress Lily James will be playing lead character Juliet Ashton.

Guernsey head of heritage services Jason Monaghan has already been in touch to offer to help using the museum's extensive collection of audio recordings and it is understood that Mr O'Shea has also contacted La Societe Guernesiaise.
