KICKSTARTING smokers' efforts to quit the habit was the aim of a local support service at a No Smoking Day pop-up shop.

The Quitline team were based in the OSA pop-up shop in Smith Street yesterday as they promoted the service to islanders.
Service manager Andrea Tostevin said it was important to be seen as approachable and to advertise the benefits of giving up smoking.
'Today is really about raising awareness and trying to make Quitline accessible to as many people as possible,' she said.
'It is an amazing shop window from which to advertise the service and make sure people know the free and informal advice we can offer.
'We are not going to lecture anyone or stand over them and make them commit to following a programme – however, we can offer evidence-based support and treatment that makes people four times more likely to quit smoking.'
