The annual Healthy Hearts Day also saw different sporting activities and a range of free health checks taking place throughout the leisure centre.

It was the 12th successive year the Cardiac Action Group has organised the event, and group secretary Gerry Le Roy said she was pleased to see different age groups using the facilities and equipment on offer.

'There is quite a cross-section of people here, which is great,' she said.

'It is a family day and it is good to have everyone involved and trying new activities like mini-tennis, badminton and walking football. Outside the sports hall we have things such as BMI checks, cookery classes for mocktails and virtual reality AED's.

'We are promoting an app that can help you to locate your nearest public defibrillator.'

She said minor tweaks to people's behaviour and habits could have a significant positive impact on their wellbeing.
