A lifetime on canvas

Local artist Peter Le Vasseur's Consequences, his first full exhibition of new work in 10 years, opens at the greenhouse gallery at the end of the month. Shaun Shackleton spoke to him

HE'S painted the Beatles, rainforests, a nuclear ark and endangered species. He's recorded the effects of global warming and depicted ecological and environmental concerns on huge canvasses.

His art may be universal, but his heart has remained truly at home here in Guernsey.

And at the end of the month, local artist Peter Le Vasseur will be exhibiting new work at the greenhouse gallery.

'I hadn't met Peter before we had organised the exhibition,' said the Arts Commission's Russ Fossey.

'This is the first time in 10 years he has had a full exhibition of new work. He's 79 now – surprisingly – and we wanted to celebrate his art.'
